Go point-to-point with Patton

GAITHERSBURG, MD Patton Electronics Co. has announced a series of baseband modems that facilitate high-speed metropolitan or campus communication over several kilometres of unconditioned twisted-pair wire.

The Patton KiloModems allow telephone companies and Internet Service Providers to give customers point-to-point access in areas where copper twisted-pair wire between 26 AWG and 19 AWG is available.

There are four base units in the modem series. Three are available for four-wire (models 1090, 1093, 1094) applications while model 1092 is available for two-wire applications.

Each unit in the series is designed to accept one of seven Patton QuikConnect DTE interface modules. These modules may be installed or removed without the use of tools and allow any base unit in the series to interface with bridges, routers, switches, multiplexers, servers and terminals from a variety of manufacturers.

The Pattan KiloModems are available as complete units, with the interface module, at list prices starting at US$695.

OptiFile Suite captures files

KANATA, Ont. Kom Inc. has announced the release of OptiFile Suite, an enterprise-wide information management solution designed for Windows and OS/2 environments. OptiFile Suite is an enterprise-wide information management tool for automating document capture, processing, storage, and retrieval. It is organized as a core package with imaging and document management functionality, supplemented by eight optional modules to add database interface, OCR interface, jukebox management, and Internet/intranet connection.

The OptiFile Suite's architecture is independent of the type of information it manages, which allows the system to handle all types of objects, such as scanned images, electronic files, COLD data and multimedia information.

OptiFile Suite is scaleable from a small single-seat installation to an enterprise deployment involving multiple locations and thousands of users.

New bus products from Northstar

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA Northstar Systems Inc., a manufacturer of PC hardware and peripheral devices, has announced a new line of Universal Serial Bus (USB) products.

With USB software resident in Microsoft's upcoming Windows 98 operating system, USB completely eliminates the need for the user to adjust system settings, add PC cards or restart the computer. The USB HubSTAR, a four-port hub, enables users to connect msultiple USB devices to a single USB port. This should allow users to conserve computer space by consolidating ports onto a single or multiple daisy-chained hubs.

The unit sits horizontally on a work surface, with multiple units stacked on top of one another.

SysKonnect adapter links clusters

SAN JOSE, CA SysKonnect has announced its SK-NET FDDI-PCI adapter certified for use with Vinca Corp.'s StandbyServer product line for NetWare and compatible with one of the industry's leading server-mirroring software companies.

Because of its inherent redundancy and support for long-range connections, server-mirroring configurations often use the FDDI as the interconnect technology between clustered servers. This makes the server adapter a strategic, critical link particularly in the design of a fault-tolerant network.

The SK-NET FDDI-PCI adapter is certified with Vinca's StandbyServer for NetWare/IntranetWare and StandbyServer Many-to-One for NetWare/IntranetWare, and also SnapShotServer for NetWare/IntranetWare.

Support for the StandbyServer product line is included in the SK-NET FDDI-PCI adapter standard driver-packet. SysKonnect's FDDI-PCI adapters are alsodesigned to support Novell's SFT III server-mirroring technology.
