For systems administrators and network managers in a WindowsNT™ environment who need prompt, efficient access to large volumes of data stored on optical storage peripherals, KOM Networks introduces OptiServer For Windows NT™, a software interface that supports a mix of optical drive sizes and features dedicated magnetic caching for lightning-quick access.
OptiServer for Windows NT™ supports standard network access and facilitates the connection of WORM, rewritable or multi-function optical disk autochangers (jukeboxes).
It offers transparent movement and access to 5.25", 12" and 14" optical jukeboxes in one installation, can create logical volumes of variable size drives and can support binding of disk volumes among the different sizes.
To optimize throughput, OptiServer for Windows NT™ caches read and write operations to a dedicated magnetic disk. Both new and active files are cached, with all cached files migrating automatically to/from optical media. OptiServer's read caching improves performance and access by reducing jukebox media swapping, while its write caching enhances performance by delaying writes to media until read request have been processed.
"The incredible growth in client/server networks has increased user needs for efficient storage and retrieval of data network wide," said Taher Shaath, Chairman of KOM Networks. "The OptiServer for Windows NT™ product is designed to meet or exceed those needs in the optical storage area," he added.
Both write once and/or rewritable media types are supported on autochangers simultaneously. Also supported are those drives which support multifunction media. All Windows NT disk formats are supported in all cases.
