KOM Networks' OptiServer v5.3 storage management software on AlphaServer systems running Compaq Tru64 UNIX V5.0, and TruCluster Server V5.0
Kanata, ON Canada – December 01, 1999
KOM Networks announce the formula for Internet Storage success. The combined strength of KOM Networks' OptiServer v5.3 on a AlphaServer systems running Compaq's Tru64 UNIX V5.0 and TruCluster Software V5.0 is the safest choice for your Internet and other mission-critical application storage. The new version of this unbeatable Quartet has revolutionized UNIX Mission critical storage, whether you need to support a single system or a cluster. Tru64 UNIX V5.0 and OptiServer v5.3 is fully binary compatible with previous versions and will be common across the Alpha and Intel IA-64 platforms, protecting your investment.
Dramatically simplified management
Using your choice of interface—an OptiServer's icon-based browser or a command line interface—OptiServer for Tru64 UNIX V5.0 provides a centralized storage system.
The onboard graphical Event Manager offers a single event log that consolidates system events to provide a unified view of the storage system behaviour and enable proactive system management. Events can be monitored, filtered, prioritized, and routed to applications as needed.
Configuration changes and recently installed patches can be rolled back to restore your system to its prior state.
A new level of reliability
The new versions of OptiServer for Tru64 UNIX and TruCluster Server offer a total package of reliability, availability, and serviceability unsurpassed in the industry. Advanced features ensure 24x365 operations, greatly reducing service interrupts, planned outages, and other problems. For example:
Hardware partitioning (currently supported on GS140 AlphaServer systems) lets you divide a single system into multiple partitions, each with a separate operating system image. If one fails, the others are unaffected.
Alternate patching for storage and network devices eliminates service interrupts. If a critical path fails, I/O is dynamically re-routed through an alternate path in a single system or between nodes in a cluster.
Online (hot) tuning lets you change Kernel parameters without rebooting the system.
Concerned about scalability?
Internet applications are apt to grow quickly—and unpredictably. That makes scalability more important than ever. You need to make sure you can track growth with an adequate storage system, and storage resources, without spending more up front than necessary.
While other vendors support 1 or 2 terabyte file systems, the Tru64 UNIX combination gives you expanded file systems, four billion User IDs/Group IDs, memory channel interconnect for high bandwidth, low latency, communications between nodes in a cluster, and Fibre Channel interconnect for high-speed connections to storage area networks (SANs).
OptiServer's other features include Remote Administration, allowing the system administrator to manage storage sub-systems from an off-site location.
OptiServer supports any combination of Jukeboxes, towers, and stand-alone drives handling WORM and re-writable media of all sector sizes. This provides a truly flexible and scalable solution for your storage management needs.
Information on availability and pricing will be announced during AIIM 2000.
